Alternative Regenerative Medicine
Connecticut Wellness Center Offers Alternative Regenerative Medicine for Patients Exploring Stem Cell Therapy
You may have heard about the potential benefits of stem cell therapy for chronic pain or tissue injuries. Stem cell therapy is a type of regenerative treatment that uses cells capable of developing into various tissue types, such as cartilage, tendon, muscle, or ligament. These cells are typically harvested from the patient’s own body (autologous), such as bone marrow or fat, and then reintroduced to areas of injury in hopes of promoting healing.
Many people research stem cell therapy for conditions like degenerative joint disease, partial tendon or ligament tears, spinal disc problems, and chronic musculoskeletal pain. While studies are ongoing, stem cell therapy has gained attention for its potential to support tissue repair and improve function. Patients often explore stem cell therapy as an alternative or complement to surgery, looking for less invasive ways to manage pain and enhance recovery.
It’s important to understand that not all stem cell therapies are the same — some focus on autologous cells (from the patient), while others use donor-derived cells or stem cell–related biologics. Patients considering stem cell therapy should discuss the approach, safety, and expected outcomes with a qualified healthcare professional.
Understanding Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSCs)
Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) are multipotent adult stem cells capable of self-renewal and differentiation into connective tissues such as ligament, cartilage, muscle and tendon. They are a major source of ongoing research, with over 1,000 clinical trials investigating their potential for conditions ranging from orthopedic injuries to heart failure, Crohn's disease, and COVID-19 related lung damage.
Some MSC-based therapies have received conditional approval in countries such as South Korea, Canada, and the EU, and in late 2024, the US FDA approved its first MSC-based therapy, remestemcel-L, for pediatric patients with steroid-resistant acute graft-versus-host disease. Other FDA-approved stem cell or gene therapies include Omisirge (aplastic anemia), Ryoncil (pediatric aGVHD), and Lyfgenia (sickle cell disease.)

Our Approach: Alternative Regenerative Medicine
At BioRestore, we provide Alternative Regenerative Medicine, which uses tissue-derived biologics to support the body’s natural repair mechanisms. Unlike traditional stem cell therapy, our treatments:
- Do not require invasive harvesting procedures
- Are delivered through a minimally invasive outpatient procedures
- Aim to help restore function, reduce discomfort, and promote recovery in cartilage, ligaments, tendons, muscles, or discs
Stem Cells & Exosomes in Aesthetic & Hair Restoration Care
At BioRestore, we also utilize stem cell and exosome-based technologies in aesthetic and hair restoration applications, where these biologics are commonly studied for their role in cellular signaling, tissue support, and skin and scalp rejuvenation.
Stem cells and exosomes are naturally occurring biological components involved in cellular communication, repair signaling, and tissue maintenance. In aesthetic and hair restoration care, these therapies are used to support:
- Hair follicle health and scalp revitalization
- Skin quality, tone, and texture
- Collagen support and overall skin rejuvenation
These treatments are distinct from the Alternative Regenerative Medicine approaches we use for joint, musculoskeletal, and pain-related conditions.
For orthopedic, joint, spine, and IV-based therapies, BioRestore utilizes Alternative Regenerative Medicine approaches using tissue-derived biologics, such as donated umbilical cord tissue, designed for homologous use to support the body’s natural repair processes. These treatments are not marketed or represented as stem cell or exosome therapies.
Conditions We Address
Musculoskeletal & Pain Support (Alternative Regenerative Medicine)
- Knee joint injury
- Hip and shoulder issues
- Chronic partial rotator cuff injuries
- Tendon and ligament injuries
- Degenerative arthritis
- Spinal disc or facet joint problems
- Sacroiliac joint pain
Aesthetic & Hair Restoration Applications
- Hair thinning and hair restoration support
- Skin rejuvenation
- Cosmetic tissue support and skin quality enhancement
Stem cell and exosome-based therapies offered for aesthetic and hair restoration purposes are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Outcomes may vary, and ongoing research continues to explore their full potential
How It Works
1. Initial Consultation
During your first appointment, a provider reviews your medical history and assesses whether Alternative Regenerative Medicine is appropriate for you. Our offices are located in Newtown and Farmington, CT.
2. Regenerative Treatment Procedure
If eligible, a provider performs a minimally invasive injection procedure in-office. Recovery downtime is usually minimal.
3. Regeneration & Recovery
The treatment supports tissue repair and regeneration in the treated area. Over time, you may experience reduced pain, improved mobility, and better functional outcomes.
